At Empire Clinic, we believe that the fundamental basis for a successful aesthetic procedure is an in-depth consultation with a skilled qualified practitioner to assess your needs and develop a bespoke personal treatment plan so that you achieve outstanding natural looking results.

HOW IT WORKS

Wrinkle relaxing injections, are therapeutic agents derived from the bacterium Clostridium Botulinum, also known as Botulinum Toxin Type A. Normally, your brain sends electrical messages to your muscles so that they can contract and move. Wrinkle relaxing injections work by blocking this message and, as a result, the muscle is temporarily unable to  contract, giving the face a more relaxed appearance. The wrinkles become smoother or disappear altogether.

Patients with hyperhidrosis (intense sweating) also can temporarily remedy their disorder with Wrinkle relaxing injections.  The product is injected into areas like the under arms and backs of knees or palms of the hands, blocking the sweat glands which cause the excessive sweating.

TREATMENT STEP BY STEP

Here is some essential information about the treatment and what to expect before, during and after your visit with us.

STEP 1

CONSULTATION

At Empire Clinic, nothing is more important to us than your health, safety and wellbeing. During your initial consultation, we discuss in depth what your wants and needs are and make a plan on how we can achieve that for you. We also talk through your medical history to make sure there aren't any potential contraindications. If you have any qualms or questions of your own, this appointment provides a great opportunity to ask away.

STEP 2

DURING YOUR TREATMENT

Anti wrinkle injections involve minimal discomfort therefore it does not involve the use of numbing. Your aesthetic nurse will request you to make facial expressions like frowning to determine and mark the location of facial muscles. They will then inject a tiny amount of Botox into the target muscles. The number of injections may vary by treatment, but around 16 are generally used. The entire process takes just 10 to 30 minutes, which means you can have a Botox injection during lunch break and return to work in the afternoon.

STEP 3

AFTER YOUR TREATMENT

Some patients develop slight redness at the injection site, but the redness usually clears within 15 minutes or so. Still, you should avoid touching the injection site for at least 60 minutes. Since Botox injections do not typically produce immediate results, you will begin to see tangible results anywhere from a few days to two weeks after treatment. Depending on the part of body treated, results could last 3-6 months. Follow-up injections are necessary to maintain the desired effect.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Which areas can be treated?

Anti-wrinkle injections can be used to relax the muscles mostly in the upper third of your face:

  • Glabella (the smooth part of the forehead, above and between the eyebrows): to smooth frown lines between your eyebrows.
  • Forehead lines: to eliminate horizontal forehead lines.
  • Crow’s feet: to target those ageing smile lines around your eyes.

Anti-wrinkle injections can also be used to relax muscles in the lower face and neck:

  • Eyebrows: to lift the edge of your brows and to open-up your eyes for a more refreshed appearance
  • Bunny lines: to treat lines at the side of the upper nose
  • Perioral lines: to banish lines around your lips caused by lip pursing or smoking
  • Bruxism: to prevent teeth grinding and clenching teeth by relaxing the jaw muscles
  • Gummy smile: to fix excessive gum visibility for a more confident smile
  • Lips: to correct down turning lip corners and a drooping mouth, and to plump lips for lip enhancement
  • Dimpled chin: to minimise the appearance of chin dimples caused by the unevenness of the chin on movement
  • Platysmal bands: to treat those unwanted horizontal neck creases which appear as stringy vertical bands in the neck, sometimes known as ‘necklace lines’ or ‘vertical ridges’.

Anti-wrinkle injections can also be used to decrease excessive sweating:

  • Underarms: to treat excessive sweating (axillary hyperhidrosis) by preventing the nerve signals from stimulating the sweat glands.

What are the side effects?

Does treatment hurt?

Some patients report that anti wrinkle injections feel like a pinch. Very thin needles are used therefore discomfort is minimal. Your specialist may use ice to numb the treatment area. Or, if you are concerned about discomfort, your specialist may apply a topical numbing cream before administering your treatment.

How long does the procedure take?

The procedure is very quick with the consultation part of your treatment taking the longest. Most appointments are around 20 minutes long.

How long does it last for?

You may begin to notice improvement within 24 to 48 hours, although for some it may take up to a week. Your results may last 3-6 months for moderate to severe frown lines. How do I prepare for my treatment?

Tell your nurse or doctor if you’ve had any type of Wrinkle relaxing injections within the past four months. Also let them know if you take muscle relaxants, sleeping aids or allergy medications.
