Who is a good candidate for Dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is beneficial for patients with rough, dry skin; superficial hyper pigmentation; mild acne scarring and those with fine lines and wrinkles. Removing the epidermal skin also allows products to penetrate more readily into the deeper layers. Dermaplaning is safe and effective for all skin types and colors and provides an alternative to chemical peels or microdermabrasion. It is a good choice for anyone who has fine facial hair, extremely sensitive skin, redness or rosacea, or visible facial veins. This is a great treatment if you are pregnant or nursing and want exfoliation without the use of chemicals. Dermaplaning cannot be performed in individuals who are using Accutane or blood thinners or who have active shingles, hemophilia, or weak delicate skin. If you suffer from acne or over production of oil, we do not recommend dermaplaning.
Will the facial hair grow back thicker?
No. There are two types of hair. Fine facial hair or “peach fuzz” is called vellous hair and is the light colored translucent hair that grows on a woman’s face, chest, or back. The other type of hair is called terminal hair, which is the coarser hair you see on the head, under the arms, brows, and the lower face of men. Hairs are always one or the other and they are not damaged or altered by the process of cutting or removal. So after dermaplaning, vellous hair grows back with its same characteristics.
How often can dermaplaning be done?
Dermaplaning can be done every 3-4 weeks. Treating the skin in this manner removes about 2 – 3 weeks’ worth of dead skin cells. The technician should allow the skin to complete its normal skin cycle of approximately 30 days before repeating.
Can Dermaplaning be performed in the same visit as a peel?
A peel done immediately after dermaplaning is an excellent way to make sure that the peel penetrates deeper and more evenly. They go great together and we recommend the combination for optimal results.
What should i expect after my Dermaplaning treatment?
You’ll immediately look more radiant with a more even skin tone and texture. While the main objective of this treatment is exfoliation, the immediate removal of peach fuzz is an added benefit which renders the skin exceptionally smooth and soft. Skin care products are better able to penetrate the skin following a dermaplaning service which allows them to work more efficiently. Your cosmetics will also go on smoother.
How should I care for my skin after Dermaplaning ?
After the treatment, your skin will be highly sensitive to sun exposure and may look pink. Treat the skin gently, using only hands to cleanse for at least 2 days. Be sure to wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher to reduce the risk of hyperpigmentation.
