HOW IT WORKS
Once injected into the skin, ultra-pure hyaluronic acid is hydrophilic, meaning it draws and holds water from your body, so Profhilo acts as a hydrator rather than a filler. This makes it fantastic for those with tired, dull-looking skin, transforming it into firm and luminous skin. This effect takes place within 3-5 days of treatment.
Over the next few weeks collagen and elastin production is stimulated, producing a secondary effect of skin tightening. This is useful because levels of collagen, elastin and Hyaluronic Acid in the skin rapidly drop from the age of 30, resulting in signs of ageing such as fine lines, wrinkles and lacklustre skin. Profhilo acts to reverse some of these changes. The maximum effect of Profhilo is usually seen 2 months after the second treatment.
TREATMENT STEP BY STEP
Here is some essential information about the treatment and what to expect before, during and after your visit with us.
STEP 1
CONSULTATION
At Empire Clinic, nothing is more important to us than your health, safety and wellbeing. During your initial consultation, we discuss in depth what your wants and needs are and make a plan on how we can achieve that for you. We also talk through your medical history to make sure there aren't any potential contraindications. If you have any qualms or questions of your own, this appointment provides a great opportunity to ask away.
STEP 2
DURING YOUR TREATMENT
Your Aesthetic nurse will invite you to lay down, then she will proceed to cleanse and disinfect the area to be treated. She will show you where exactly the injections go after carefully marking the skin for precision. Profhilo is is injected just below the skin’s surface with minimal discomfort. It is absorbed within a 2cm radius of its injection site, so to treat the face only 10 injection points are needed in total.
STEP 3
AFTER YOUR TREATMENT
Immediately after the procedure, you can see small bumps, much like an insect bite or bee sting, at the site of the injection. These are very easy to cover usually and can take up to 24 hours to settle. The downtime following a treatment is minimal, and you should be able to return to normal ‘light’ daily activities immediately after your procedure.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is the difference between Profhilo and dermal filler?
The only similarity between dermal fillers and Profhilo is that they’re both made from hyaluronic acid which is injected into your tissues.
Fillers are quite thick hyaluronic acid gels, which are used to restore volume and definition to areas experiencing signs of ageing, such as cheeks and lips. These forms of stabilised injectable hyaluronic acid help plump ageing and sagging tissue as well as smooth out specific wrinkles such as nose-to-mouth lines.
Whereas, Profhilo has a runnier hyaluronic acid consistency than fillers and is injected only into the upper layers of skin to hydrate and have a ‘scaffolding’ anti ageing effect within the skin, as well as improve the quality of your skin thanks to its ability to trigger bio remodelling.
Imagine your skin is a bed: rather than plumping up the pillows (the effect fillers have on the skin), Profhilo increases the thread count of the sheets (your skin). Which in effect, ultimately reduces signs of ageing in your skin but also remodels the natural lift throughout your face.
How long does Profhilo take to work?
Profhilo results aren’t immediate as it is a 2-part treatment; these two treatments are 30 days, (or four weeks) apart from one another. In the 30 days prior to your two treatments, your skin works hard, to produce new, bouncy collagen and elastin to give your skin a firmer, smoother and plumper complexion. Full results are seen only after the second session as your skin produces more and more collagen and elastin, however, changes are often noticed after the first session.
What is bioremodelling?
This is a process that is triggered in the skin to create lots of new, bouncy collagen and elastin which helps to combat the signs of skin ageing such as lines and wrinkles, crepiness, and dull, thinning skin and improves skin laxity and encourages skin rejuvenation.
What are the benefits?
Treatment with Profhilo improves skin tone, texture, hydration and overall radiance. It can help to increase firmness and elasticity and promote healthier and softer-looking skin. Profhilo is most commonly used for facial areas, but can also be used to rejuvenating the neck, decollete, arms, knees and hands.
How many treatments are needed?
At the start, you will need two induction sessions one month apart then one session every six months for maintenance.
Is Profhilo safe?
The profhilo treatment is biocompatible due to its pure grade hyaluronic acid which is free of additives, therefore reducing side effects and offering greater safety. To date, over a million Profhilo treatments have been administered all over the world and nobody has had a serious reaction to the treatment.
Despite the incredibly high hyaluronic acid content, this slow release treatment has a low inflammatory profile, pro-healing properties and is backed by clinical studies.
Is there any downtime after treatment?
The downtime following a treatment is minimal, and you should be able to return to normal ‘light’ daily activities immediately after your procedure. However, we recommend that you avoid physical strain and sports on the first day after the treatment, and don’t have a sauna or steamy bath for the first few days. You should also avoid intense sun or UV light exposure for the first few days after treatment.
What are the possible side effects?
As with all non-surgical aesthetic treatments there is a risk of side-effects, such as minor bruising or swelling at the injection sites. These do not usually occur and generally subside quickly when they do.
Profhilo is not recommended for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, or people who are allergic to Hyaluronic Acid.
