At Empire Clinic, we believe that the fundamental basis for a successful aesthetic procedure is an in-depth consultation with a skilled qualified practitioner to assess your needs and develop a bespoke personal treatment plan so that you achieve outstanding natural looking results.

HOW IT WORKS

The intense pulsed light system releases precisely controlled short pulses of filtered light that are absorbed by the blood vessel, heating it to a point where it is destroyed. Following treatment the vessels quickly clear and are reabsorbed by the body, leaving little or no trace of the original lesion.

TREATMENT STEP BY STEP

Here is some essential information about the treatment and what to expect before, during and after your visit with us.

STEP 1

CONSULTATION

At Empire Clinic, nothing is more important to us than your health, safety and wellbeing. During your initial consultation, we discuss in depth what your wants and needs are and make a plan on how we can achieve that for you. We also talk through your medical history to make sure there aren't any potential contraindications. If you have any qualms or questions of your own, this appointment provides a great opportunity to ask away.

STEP 2

DURING YOUR TREATMENT

You will be asked to put on goggles to protect your eyes. A layer of chilled gel is applied to the area to guide the light into the skin. The light applicator is placed on the skin and a short pulse of light is released. The applicator is then moved to the neighbouring area and the process is repeated until the entire area is treated. The chilled gel is removed and the area cooled.

STEP 3

AFTER YOUR TREATMENT

At Aesthetics Lab, nothing is more important to us than your health, safety and wellbeing. During your initial dermal fillers consultation, we will talk through your medical history to be 100% sure of any potential contraindications. If you have any qualms or questions of your own, this appointment provides a great opportunity to ask away.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Which areas can be treated?

  • Face
  • Neck
  • Chest
  • Legs

What are the side effects?

After treatment, the area may go red and feel warm for a few hours. Sometimes delicate skin areas such as the cheeks or décolletage could be red and slightly swollen for up to 48 hours and sometimes small blisters may form. The vessels should fade quickly. Rarely the skin may become lighter or darker, or larger blisters may develop.

Does treatment hurt?

No anaesthesia is required and most patients describe the discomfort as moderate and acceptable. Sensations vary but most describe it as a very quick hot pin prick.

How long does the procedure take?

Treatments typically take from 5 to 45 minutes, depending on the type and size of the lesion.

How many treatments are needed?

Typically 1-5 treatments are needed for maximum results, spaced approximately every 4 to 6 weeks.

How long does it last for?

Results are permanent, however new thread veins can still develop in the future.

Is there any downtime after treatment?

None, sometimes the area can be red for a few hours after treatment.

Are there any after-care instructions?

  • Avoid sun exposure, tanning beds and creams until your treatments are completed
  • Avoid hot showers, saunas, hot tubs, swimming and strenuous sports for 2-3 days followingtreatment, or until any redness, crusting, or blisters have resolved
  • If crusting develops, it should fall off naturally. Please do not pick or scratch.
  • Do not wax, tweeze, bleach, or use hair removal creams or electrolysis on treatment area until all treatments are completed
  • Do not shave treated area for 1 to 3 days post-treatment if crusting or blistering occurs
  • Apply a minimum SPF 30 broad spectrum sunscreen
  • Treated area may appear red, irritated and swollen (like sunburn). Apply ice packs or cold aloe vera to soothe.
  • You may experience “hair shedding” the first few days after treatment which is sometimes mistaken for hair growth
  • Can apply makeup, lotion, resume shaving and apply skincare products to treatment area as early as the next day as long as the skin is not broken and there is no extended redness, blistering or scabbing. Thoroughly remove makeup and creams gently with a soft, clean cloth and mild cleanser. Pat to dry. The treated area is very delicate and should be treated with care. Excess rubbing can open the area and may lead to scarring.
